This is Wanda (in pink) who rocked out the Pink Power Sprint Triathlon in RVA
on Aug 10th. She set a goal (a very large hilly goal in Midlothian) and she
crossed the finish line! Wanda has lost 148 pounds with the help of a
nutritionist and a personal trainer. She said she has more weight to lose and
is getting there in a healthy life changing way which means it will be sustainable.
I was so inspired by her determination and dedication. She was the last person
to cross the finish line at 02:53:59 but it felt like all of RVA was there cheering
for her. The awards ceremony was over, vendors & volunteers had packed up
and most athletes and their families had left to go home. I ran back down Woolridge Road to find Wanda just a 1/2 mile from the finish with 2 other ladies encouraging her up the hill. I joined in congratulating her and supporting her on this last little bit. "You've come this far, you got this girl!" She was worried about the little downhill onto the soccer field because she said her legs were toast. She got down the hill and then dug deep to RUN across that finish line with about 20 of us behind her cheering her on. Tears were shed and hearts swelled knowing how far she came to get across that line.
Wanda you ARE a TRIATHLETE!
I hope to see her at the Richmond Sprint Triathlon in October at Burkwood and I know I will see her at the Richmond 1/2 Marathon in November. As she was working that last hill I asked her when her next Tri is and she said she wasn't sure but that her next goal was to complete the 1/2 in November.
Rock it out girl!! Keep moving and inspiring!
